Belleville / Ménilmontant
No, the bobos have not gotten this far. At least not quite... Belleville & Ménilmontant undoubtedly remain the last real popular areas of Paris in the true sense of the term, a melting-pot where die-hard Parisian, second generation North Africans and Chinese cohabit most of the time in perfect harmony. Like having one foot inside a photo by Willy Ronis, the other in Chinatown-ready to paint the town red.

Café with a view: La Mer à Boire
At the end of the rue Piat, a café, and a terrace where Paris is served up as though it were on a silver platter, the top peak of the Park de Belleville. Here there are rather cultural aspirations, but let's be honest, mostly an absolute pleasure at having a drink while reading a book, outside in the shade, when the sun is burning the tarmac on rue des Envierges. So Paris becomes quite like a Panier district backstreet, in Marseille. A fun ambiance, often quite noisy, in the evening, until 1am. Very decent nibbles.
(on the café terrace, the view on Paris is breathtaking)
