Belleville / Ménilmontant
No, the bobos have not gotten this far. At least not quite... Belleville & Ménilmontant undoubtedly remain the last real popular areas of Paris in the true sense of the term, a melting-pot where die-hard Parisian, second generation North Africans and Chinese cohabit most of the time in perfect harmony. Like having one foot inside a photo by Willy Ronis, the other in Chinatown-ready to paint the town red.

Tea & snack: the Bubble Tea
Might as well admit immediately our obsession for this drink, which is a lot more than a simple tea. We discovered this Taiwanese specialty at Zen Zoo in the 2nd arrondissement but now that it is spreading, we can admit to our addiction. It's a mix of green or black tea with milk (or soya, easier to digest) flavored as one wishes (apple, strawberry etc.) or plain.
Nothing very wild, except that at the bottom of the glass, there are big tapioca beads that one inhales with a straw. It's sticky, sugary and absolutely delicious! It's possible to sit at this very neat counter, but it can also be great fun to take out one's drink-snack-and going out to sip it sitting on the steps of the Park de Belleville.
