Belleville & Ménilmontant undoubtedly remain the last real popular areas of Paris in the true sense of the term, a melting-pot where die-hard Parisian, second generation North Africans and Chinese cohabit most of the time in perfect harmony. Like having one foot inside a photo by Willy Ronis, the other in Chinatown-ready to paint the town red.

Belleville features more than 200 artist workshops. The question is where to find them! To do so, nothing better than contacting the Association des Ateliers de Belleville which organizes open-door venues and can inform you on what, where and how. The workshops cannot be visited at all times - since people work there! -but if you are truly interested, doors will open...
