Independent films and oriental pastries at the Louxor

Louxor

With its lotus motifs, its hieroglyphics padding the walls and its style Art Deco style, the iconic movie house of Barbès is a film decor in itself. The perfect setting to get away from reality in an over-the-top projection room during a session, before sipping a glass at the bar …. « Louxor, I adore ! ».

After a major renovation, the flagship of cinema going back to the Roaring Twenties, hang out of trendies from that era, is as young as ever…

The program, on the other hand, is resolutely  modern with a selection of avant-garde independent films and underground nuggets.

Not to be missed at the moment: Phoenix, a superb German film on the quest for identity that was a big hit during the latest festivals; Wild Tales, a succession of small zany scenes produced by Almodovar ; The Boy and the World, a feel-good animated film.

And also: monthly cycles around film directors such as John Ford or François Truffaut.

Very cool, the small bar serving home-made dishes (fish soup, deer casserole), tarts, cookies and Oriental pastries, cute reminder of the venue’s exotic spirit… Wild, sipping a Paris brewed Goutte d’Or beer on the terrace facing Tati and the outdoor metro platform.

Full rate 9,20€.
