Our « off » itinerary
Feel like stepping away from the beaten paths and buying a lovely photograph that you can hang in your living room immediately? En route for the off-beat, inexpensive, fashionable or romantic galleries of Montmartre and Saint-Germain with stop-over on Faubourg Saint-Martin.
The most affordable: Yellow Korner
The ambition of Yellow Korner is quite simple: offering numbered prints of quality, occasionally signed by leading names in the world of photography, all this at a very affordable price (and with a certificate that guarantees you own a work of art !).
For around fifty euros you can hang above your bed the images of your dreams... Tempting no? All the more so since the gallery represents a number of stars, such as the famous Yann Arthus Bertrand (65 to 200 EUR). Quite real, this incredible but true gallery was virtual at the outset: a clever site of online sales. But since quite recently it has also opened up in Montmartre!
Our heart throbs? Photos of rock star Iggy Pop signed Xavier Martin, a lunar and original series of the Apollo mission as well as recent auto portraits by Rie Rasmussen, top model and Gucci muse who for the first time will be behind the lens and presenting her works exclusively...
44 rue des Abbesses 75018 Paris

The most affordable & trendy: Lumas
Lumas is both a trendy and very affordable gallery: ideally located rue de Seine in Saint-Germain des Près, it offers very accessible prints from very small formats to larger sizes. A stop here is always a nice relaxing moment when one discovers delicious portraits that look like real ad campaigns labeled by leading names!
40 rue de Seine, 75006 Paris
Opening hours: Monday-Saturday 10am-8pm, Sunday 1-6pm

The most romantic: Room with views
A little marvel nestled near the Faubourg Saint-Antoine, the Chambre Gallery with its views offers one of the most romantic exhibits with the photographic works of Rosa Basurto, exhibited for the first time in Paris. No heavy thinking here, the young Spanish photographer strives more at conveying to visitors sensations of unreality than to passing on ideas.
And she does this very well. In addition, the gallery also has the advantage of presenting photographs at relatively affordable prices: starting at 600EUR for 50x50 cm prints (9 copies).
3 rue Jules Vallès 75011 Paris
Open Tuesday to Saturday from 2-7pm

The off-beat fashion pause: Dysfashional
When designers encounter art it leads to Dysfashional: an exhibition at the frontier of fashion and contemporary art, it is in Paris before heading on to Berlin. The aim? Reveal the universe of designers without exhibiting their collections. Hussein Chalayan, the Martin Margiela House, Pierre Hardy and many others are preparing you a wonderful surprise. A hybrid space-half-way between a boutique and a gallery- also focuses on budding artists and designers. Tops!
Expo from 29 October to 29 November 2009.
