The 50's look
Do It
Replace broadcloth by smooth leather for a stronger allure. The bottom (knee length skirt) or the top (short tapered jacket) but not as a total look.
Instead of pumps you can wear flat ballerinas shoes, red (Repetto, Anniel) or panther print (Cosmo, Maloles).
The First Lady bag, short handle worn over the shoulder or hand held, in leather, is very chic, in colorful or two-tone with a metal clasp (Tila March, Myusuelly for Paul&Joe).
If you are not wearing a jacket, choose a thin knit. A raw edge mesh cardigan in muslin (Athé Vanessa Bruno) or a knit crewneck pullover inlaid with a touch of lace or jewelry detail (Sandro, Kookaï). Make sure not to wear oversize knit for a pretty volume of the silhouette.
Use a thin and long belt over your jacket, cinched at the waist, but not if your jacket is in leather. So that it is not overly classic, tie it as though there were no buckle.
Don't Do It
No banana chignon, especially if you are wearing a suit, rather a bandeau or a rhinestone semi rigid headband (H&M, Zara).
If you go for a wide skirt, at the risk of looking a little stocky, better opt for a knee-high length rather than a mid-calf.
Beware of the association between camel hues or too many monochromes that tend to convey a dull aspect to the ensemble. For that, don't hesitate to add a touch of graphic print or color. Don't be total look and hence first degree.
By cumulating all the codes of the 50s, your silhouette might be a tad overkill. Try and find the twist that conveys the modern touch.
