In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, it's Positano, rue des Canettes, without any hesitation. No trendy decor here, what counts is what they serve and it happens to be one of the best Italians in Paris: the boscaiola is to die for and the pizze worth the detour. It's the best bet in the area, really not expensive and with a warm welcome, but you have to deserve it: impossible to reserve and you often have to stand in line! It may be noisy but it has been constantly good for the past 10 years: so who cares about noise if the palate is satisfied?
Right Bank there is another Italian that also serves up good French cooking: le Petit Ozio, very practical if you have to spend some time in the 16th. Amazing ham, huge salads and delicious pasta for a very reasonable price, smiling staff and ... it's a great option if you are lunching with a girl friend who eats exclusively kosher : it's the only really good kosher restaurant (including meats!) and not expensive.
