Le Mathis is at the outset a mythical nightlife landmark, a padded, carpeted, low-key pocket bar, a real cocoon reserved for the pleasure of the happy few that are part of the chic Paris night bird set. More accessible, the namesake hotel is less elitist but also sets forth a taste for a hush-hush ambiance, with very low lighting and a decor that reminds one of a chic bachelor pad.
