Tacos, margaritas and Frida Kahlo: the Mexican restaurant were were hoping for

Mexican restaurant in Paris

Impossible to stop there. After the food-truck transformed into a pocket taqueria, Lucia and Juan, the founders of de Chilam have transferred their kitchen in a real Mexican dining room near Bastille. Meanwhile, their residences at Ground Control and in the courtyard of BHV Homme are running full blast. Three good reasons to go check out their new flagship.

To see Frida Kahlo

Painting of Frida Kahlo

Self-portraits, photos, neon, the Mexican painter is everywhere. Her famous Caza Azul (Blue House for non-Spanish speakers), having become the Frida Kahlo museum in the burbs of Mexico, freely inspired this place: blue walls, wooden furniture, canvases on easels, paint tubes, palettes…

A spacious, comfortable and pleasant where one can appreciate the concoctions of Juan around a real table, and no longer just in street-food mode.

To wolf down the best tacos de Paris

A few years ago, Chilam won the prize of best tacos in Paris during the Que Gusto festival. A highly deserved reward. To really be convinced, test the duo of glazed duck tacos twisted with a remarkable orange sauce (€9.50) or those with marinated pork (€9.50) along with the house guacamole (€9.50)—yum, finger licking good.

XXL nugget, marinated gambas

But the major asset of this new address is mostly its more confidential Mexican specialties. Examples? The molote, a traditional XXL nugget made with corn paste, garnished with mashed potatoes, chorizo, fresh cheese and mashed avocado (€7.50). Tampiquena, a tasty strip of flank steak, grilled on lava stones, accompanied by cheesy quesadillas (€21).

Muy buenoalso, the marinated gambas, grilled al pastor presented on a salad of roasted pineapple (€25), to be enjoyed with a divine mezcal cocktail (Margarita €9).

For the €10 aperitivo formula

€10  for tapas + craft beer or a glass of wine, it’s the magical formula that gives you a boost after tough day at work (Wednesday to Friday. €12 with a Margarita).

Open Wednesday to Saturday from 7pm to 11:30pm. Saturday and Sunday from noon to 3pm.
