Does Steel Magnolias ring a bell? The famous dramatic comedy (1st Oscar nomination of Julia Roberts, if you please) that inspired Vénus Beauté, has been a hit on the New York stage since 25 years.
Cool: it is landing in Paris at Théâtre Michel with a scenography by Dominique Guillo.
Let’s set up the decor. Thérèse Beauty: a kitsch candy pink hairsalon in Brittany where hairdressers and their clients like to discuss world affairs and local gossip… From the beautician to the socialite wife of the Mayor: here is a closed-doors of six women in a hair salon that enjoy sharing confidences.
Of course, the result is gossip about the neighborhood and very funny cat fights … But not only that! A young widow who consoles herself in the arms of all the old dandies on the lookout for a new youth, a young sick girl … Despite its girly side, this play is as powerful as it is funny. Laughing and crying—clever, intelligent—just as we like it.
We adore: the duo of best enemies —Odette, a very edgy lefty, and Claire, a fervent hilarious right wing activist— who take digs at each other thanks to a very well-written dialogue.
