Make sure your resume stands out

Cv

There is no standard curriculum vitae, it’s a personal tool that consists in writing your life story at a given moment in time.

Be aware that most recruiters read resumes diagonally— between 30s and 1 minute. So the idea is to draw their attention right from the start.

Indicate your background (last school, number years on your previous job and the area of activity), the job you are presenting yourself for or your professional project, languages spoken, your availability, your mobility and 2/3 personal qualities, but careful not to overdo it or seem dull.

Think of qualities in correlation with the job. For example, if you are aiming at a sales position, you might mention that you have a good sense of one-on-one relationship, an aptitude for negotiation.

Mention 1/2 successful missions that occurred during previous jobs, which you are proud of. And mention your passions. The recruiter will certainly want to go over them during the interview, which will enable you to widen the discussion.

In terms of presentation, it must be synoptic, readable and hold on one page maximum. The presentation must be impeccable. Never more than 2 colours, only one typeface, in a reasonable size, perfect tabulation. You can use existing models on Internet, but don't just cut and paste. You must stand out from the crowd.

A photo is not legally obligatory, but advisable. It must be in keeping with the job. Look well at ease and a tad serious!
