Are the days getting shorter and your mood taking a hit? The Do It team has the solution: get those paintbrushes out! Our editorial team has unearthed three painting workshops for a colorful afternoon, perfect for unleashing your creativity and chasing away the gray skies. On the agenda: landscapes in pop colors using acrylics, watercolors inspired by a favorite photo, and an ultra-graphic portrait on linen canvas. Ready to get your hands dirty?
The Pop One

Head to the 12th arrondissement, beneath the Coulée Verte, to Sabrina’s studio. No fine arts degree required here: you’ll learn a simple method for breaking down a landscape into lines and curves before reinterpreting it in a pop-art style. After sketching your design on beautiful paper, it’s time to add color. You’ll learn how to create your own personal palette and get an introduction to acrylic painting, experimenting with shapes and contrasts. A little tip: bring a photo of a landscape that means something to you, and Sabrina will help you recreate it. The result? You’ll leave with a painting that’s 100% your own, ready to brighten up your walls. Open to anyone aged 12 and over, this workshop is a great way to bring the whole family together!
The Gentle One

Just a short walk from Pierre et Marie Curie metro station, everything at Raphaële’s studio is about taking a gentle approach. The idea? Turn a photo into an abstract watercolor composition. Bring one to three A5-sized images, either personal photos or pictures from a magazine, then trace them in pencil, preserving what makes each one unique. Raphaële will then introduce you to flat washes and show you how to get the water-to-paint ratio just right for bright, luminous colors. From monochrome to multicolored, the choice is yours, with a wide range of extra-fine tube watercolors to choose from. Your one-of-a-kind creation, painted on beautiful cotton paper, is yours to take home, give as a gift or treasure for yourself!
The Graphic One

Ready to take on a real creative challenge? Dive into Mathilde’s colorful world in Bagnolet and learn to paint an expressive portrait on linen canvas. This is all about taking your time: over four hours, you’ll start by choosing the background color that sets the tone, then learn to identify facial proportions, shadows and volume through drawing exercises and the grid method. Next comes the most fun part: choosing your colors and rendering light and shadow with flat areas of color and successive layers of paint, far removed from realistic skin tones. Your portrait can be of someone close to you or a face chosen from a selection provided at the studio. At the end, you’ll leave with a characterful portrait, ready to hang on your wall!
