Martin Parr in the Spotlight at the Jeu de Paume

An inimitable style and photographs that capture the absurdity of our world with near-theatrical precision ? We’re obviously talking about Martin Parr, a key photographer of his generation. Recently deceased, the artist is being honored until May 24 at the Jeu de Paume with an exhibition 100% dedicated to our everyday excesses and lifestyles that dangerously flirt with the absurd. Global Warning stands out as the must-see exhibition of the season, with images far removed from the usual clichés—both fun and alarming. Let’s take a tour !

A Style Recognizable Among Thousands

On the walls of the museum overlooking the Tuileries, a series of images that only the British photographer knows how to create. Saturated colors, flash straight in the face, wide-angle lenses, and a deliciously offbeat tone : each photograph bears the artist’s signature, recognizable at first glance.

What do we love most about Martin Parr ? His oh-so-British humor and that gentle yet bittersweet mockery that challenges what our eyes struggle to see. The artist questions everything – especially what no one truly notices : mass tourism, excessive consumption, and obsession with appearances are just a few examples.

The World’s Imbalances Portrayed with Tenderness

With Global Warning, his first posthumous exhibition, we find everything the artist did best : perfectly capturing our daily excesses without ever falling into cynicism. From Italy’s turquoise waters overcrowded by mass tourism to the ultra-wealth of glamorous soirées, not to mention our addiction to smartphones, nothing and no one is spared… yet always with deep tenderness. The exhibition brings together around 180 works created from the late 1970s to today, painting a striking portrait of the disorder of our era and our completely unbalanced lifestyles.

Our favorites ? The photograph of boats crammed together in front of Capri’s Blue Grotto, humorously diverting the aesthetic of the tourist postcard, and the iconic Benidorm granny sunbathing under the blazing sun wearing her blue UV glasses.

We love : watching the rooms filled with visitors who have come to admire the artworks… phone in hand. An almost perfect mise en abyme, as if the exhibition itself had become a photograph signed Martin Parr.
