La Côte Saint-Jacques & Spa: The Ultimate Luxury Getaway Just 1.5 Hours from Paris

What if the greatest luxury we could treat ourselves to today was simply slowing down? Just 1.5 hours from Paris, La Côte Saint-Jacques & Spa seems to have found the magic formula. Nestled along the banks of the Yonne River, this Burgundian institution has been cultivating a delicate art de vivre for nearly 80 years, passed down through generations, where time finally finds its rightful pace. A 5-star hotel, a two-star Michelin restaurant, and a waterfront spa: not a single note is out of tune! But what lingers most in the memory is that immediate feeling of being expected, as if the entire house had been designed solely to envelop you in a bubble of absolute serenity.

Between Vineyards and the River

The charm operates from the moment you arrive. The river flows peacefully below, the trees dance in the wind, and the Burgundian light wraps the facades in an almost meditative softness. For the Lorain family, hospitality is not just a concept—it is a family legacy spanning four generations! With only 22 rooms and suites, La Côte Saint-Jacques cultivates a precious sense of intimacy. All opening onto the Yonne River or the gardens, they offer that now-rare luxury: absolute quiet.

Behind their cozy décor lies the artistic sensibility of Karine Lorain, today accompanied by her daughter Solène. An Italian blown-glass vase discovered during a chance encounter, a hand-carved piece from a Madagascan workshop, a detail found by luck during a trip to Africa: each object was chosen along their journeys, and every room tells its own story, right down to the wildlife photographs taken by Jean-Michel Lorain.

A Dining Experience that Speaks to the Heart and Palette

Boasting a 2-star Michelin restaurant, this culinary gem—now helmed by Alexandre Bondoux—is rooted in a deeply thoughtful approach: respect for the product, the seasons, and the environment. Inspired by local markets, the terroir, regional producers, and his travels, his cuisine is clear, precise, and essential, where technique serves only one master: flavor. You will find bold tastes, clean textures, masterfully executed sauces, and exceptional ingredients (menus starting from €228).

Among the standout dishes: the Kristal caviar floating island with black garlic jelly and light horseradish cream; the divine BBQ-grilled Wagyu beef with Savora condiment and a pastrami-infused jus; or their splendid French cheese platter. And as you gaze out at the river from the dining room at sunset, it is hard not to feel exactly where you are meant to be…

A Spa with a Therapeutic View

Inaugurated in 2007, this 800 m² luxury spa facing the Yonne River beautifully blends into the surrounding landscape. Bathed in natural light, the indoor swimming pool invites pure relaxation, while a panoramic hot tub overlooking the river extends this feeling of escape. Downstairs, a hammam, sauna, and treatment rooms complete this sanctuary far from the hustle and bustle, where time seems to stretch. Our recommendation: end on a high note with a treatment by Paoma, a committed French brand whose eco-responsible values resonate perfectly with the spirit of the place.

And All Around…

La Côte Saint-Jacques is the ideal base for exploring the region: the Roncemay golf course, bike rides along the Yonne, canoeing, go-karting, or even scenic first flights offer a more active way to discover the area. On the cultural side, Joigny, a certified Town of Art and History, sparks curiosity, followed by the Arcy-sur-Cure caves, the Pontigny Abbey, or the Châteaux of Ancy-le-Franc and Tanlay. Further afield, the vineyards of Chablis, Irancy, or Saint-Bris extend the experience through wine tastings and rolling landscapes. A stay here becomes an endless playground of nature and heritage, making us want to leave Paris much more often.

Rooms starting from €392 per night. All information can be found online at cotesaintjacques.com.
