Conseil de famille: Amanda Sthers' Hilarious Comedy

The family consil at the comedy of paris

How about treating yourself to a theatre evening with a high potential for feel-good vibes, just to forget all the daily hassles? Amanda Sthers and Morgan Spillemaecker's comedy "Conseil de famille" returns to the Parisian stage, offering a new adaptation at the Comédie de Paris. We laughed, laughed a lot!

Family Foul Play

A money-obsessed playboy, a mother at the end of her tether, and a failed writer suffering from Peter Pan syndrome: now that's a competitive sibling trio! This team of champions is complemented by their mother, who intends to enjoy her life to the fullest: partying all night long, drinking copious amounts of cocktails (much to her children's dismay), taking dance lessons to meet men, and having an uninhibited sex life.

Enough is enough! As they gather for a family dinner, the eldest proposes to his brother and sister to get rid of their mother. Why such a radical decision? Florian, Fanny, and Ben can't stand her anymore. When she's not criticizing her daughter's weight, she's criticizing her grandchildren. As for Ben, his mother is convinced he's repressing his homosexuality. Florian, meanwhile, is on the brink of bankruptcy and is tired of supporting everyone - his sister's fictitious job, his brother's rent, and even the donations his mother makes with his credit card. Of course, nothing goes as planned: farcical plots, twists galore, hilarious misunderstandings, and brutally honest yet uninhibited truths are on the agenda of this enjoyable comedy.

A Fabulous Family

family consil extract

In this crazy family, we have Aude Thirion, Valentine Revel-Mouroz, Sébastien Pierre, and Romain Thunin. A new troupe that keeps the laughter going... Romain Thunin takes on the role of the morally bankrupt older brother. When he's not complaining about throwing money out the window for his whole family, he's tying up his mother in a chair. Valentine Revel-Mouroz is absolutely hilarious as the awkward sister who never does anything wrong but still manages to assert herself against her mother throughout the play (well, almost). And let's not forget Sébastien Pierre, perfect as the mama's boy stuck in his adolescence.

Saving the best for last: Aude Thirion plays the "victim". This absolutely dreadful mother doesn't hesitate to say brutally hurtful truths. How does she describe her children? "A stingy bachelor, a fat unhappy woman, and a repressed gay". Ouch! Aude Thirion makes us cringe and laugh with punchlines that would make anyone wince. Our favorite? "We know when we have children, but we don't know when we can get rid of them". In the end, it's the story of a family that loves each other as much as they hate each other. Kind of like all families, right?

"Conseil de famille" until June 30th at the Comédie de Paris.
