Vegan cosmetics: 3 ethical chic labels

Beaute Vegan

Can one start using vegan cosmetics without sacrificing our taste for handsome packaging, cocooning textures and delicate fragrances? The answer is yes.

Quick reminder: not only does veganism forbid tests on animals, a protective measure adopted by European ruling in 2013. It also proscribes using animal matters in the formulation of products (keratin, bee wax, animal collagen…). More and more established brands are launching the process such as The Body Shop, Too Faced and Urban Decay that all offer dedicated ranges. Others have chosen the 100% vegan solution. Zoom on 3 chic and ethical labels on the market.

Under the shower: Energie Fruit

energie fruit

Its glam’ potential: with its pop packaging divinely illustrated by Angéline Melin (rings a bell?) and its super clean formulations concocted near Aix-en-Provence, Energie Fruit is blowing a wind of freshness and good humour on the shelves of large and average sized shopping centers (Monoprix, Carrefour Market, Auchan, Franprix…). Having worked for leading companies in the area, Sophie Blin and Caroll-Ann Lovera imagined their dream products: fun, accessible and ethical. Their punch line? “Tested on girl friends, not on animals”.

The star products: the monoï shower gel, without paraben nor silicon, with a wonderful holiday fragrance (€25) for 5 minutes of absolute delight every morning. For hair, the Boost-Hair shampooand the 2 en 1 mask with monoï and organic macadamia nut oil that respects hair and makes it very soft.

The rallying sign: the brand was certified “vegan and cruelty-free” by PETA in November 2017, rabbit logo on all the products.

In the make-up kit: Kat von D

kat von d

Its glam’ potential: superstar tattoo artist on the other side of the Atlantic, Kat von D (her real name is Kat von Drachenberg) lends her image of gothic badass with a touch of punk to her eponymous makeup line. Launched in 2008, the label has recently taken a new vegan turn pegged to the new lifestyle of its big boss. Big success since its arrival in France last year, exclusively at Sephora.

The star products: the Everlasting Liquid Lipstik, a real winner rich in pigments (€19.95). The tattoo liner, fatal weapon for doe eyes (€19.95). And the shade + light palette, fave utensil of contouring pros (€45).

The rallying sign: after a complete reformulation of the entire makeup line, Kat von D is now 100% vegan and cruelty-free. Zoom on the heart-shaped logo granted by the Vegan Action at the end of 2017.

Next to the sink: Lamazuna

lamazuna

Its glam’ potential: they look like chic and graphic tea boxes, but this colourful packaging serves in reality as a case for solid deodorants and konjac sponges! A clever way of dusting off the tad boring image of products with a “green” tagging. Dictated by the preservation of the environment, the Lamazuna team has developed since 2010 intelligent solutions aimed at eliminating all the waste of our bathrooms. And in order to go all the way in this approach, the products are 100% vegan.

The star products: makeup removing towelettes in microfibers. Usable more than 300 times without product and machine washable, they replace without regret cottons puffs and make-up remover (kit of 10 towelettes €17.50). Another best-seller, the solid deodorant with essential oil of palmarosa that eradicates the bacteria responsible for unpleasant smells without altering natural transpiration (€9.90).

The rallying sign: Lamazuna was the second French brand to receive the Cruelty-Free and Vegan label by PETA. The rabbit is featured on all the products.
