Pro Tips to Get Dream Hair

Malika, founder of Mindful Hair and author of Good Hair Day, shares her secrets for a total hair transformation. Known as a true haircare expert, she treats all kinds of scalp and hair concerns in her Paris studio on Rue du Temple, offering holistic hair treatments with a global and integrative approach. Her specialties? Microscopic hair analysis, therapeutic scalp massages, and psycho-hair philosophy. We asked this hair guru for her best tips to keep your hair healthy and radiant all year long.

How to Repair Hair After Summer

Healthy fall hair starts in the summer with UV-protective oil, a hat, and rinsing with fresh water after swimming! At back-to-school season, preventing hair loss is key. Malika recommends:

  • Hair supplements from late August to boost growth.

  • Rebuilding the hydrolipidic film with fatty acids and amino acids through nourishing masks and conditioners enriched with ceramides and proteins.

  • Soothing scalp serums or oil baths before shampooing to regenerate hair.

  • Daily brushing and self-massage (1–6 minutes) to stimulate circulation and prevent shedding—ideally done before shampoo if you have an oily scalp.

Tips to Avoid Greasy Hair

  • Don’t massage your scalp during shampooing—it only makes oily hair worse. Instead, foam the product in your hands and gently apply it.

  • Avoid overusing dry shampoo, which can suffocate hair follicles. If necessary, pick a very natural one—it’s still better than over-washing oily hair.

An Anti-Hair Loss Routine

Before bedtime, Malika follows this routine:

  1. Brush thoroughly.

  2. Use a Dermastamp (microneedling tool) to stimulate the scalp.

  3. Apply an anti-hair loss treatment while gently lifting the scalp so the forehead moves.

  4. Nourish lengths and ends with a serum.

  5. Tie hair in a pineapple bun for the night.

3 Haircare Essentials She Never Leaves Without

  1. A styling cream, serum, or leave-in lotion to protect hair before going outside—essential in polluted cities like Paris.

  2. A heat protectant, even for gentle blow-drying.

  3. A good hairbrush—boar bristles to smooth, nylon bristles to detangle. Daily brushing keeps hair clean and shiny.

What You Should Know About the Scalp

The scalp is an ecosystem made up of a microbiome, bacteria, and an acidic pH. Hair grows from follicles in the dermis, nourished by blood vessels that carry hormones, nutrients, iron, and even traces of medication.

A healthy scalp equals vibrant hair. It often reflects imbalances in the body before other symptoms appear. Malika’s advice: observe your scalp (tightness, redness, texture) and practice regular self-massage to reconnect with it.

What Is “Psycho-Haircare”?

According to Malika, many scalp issues are linked to emotional events—what she calls “separation conflicts” (grief, divorce, moving, loss). Hair becomes a mirror of inner life: the way we treat our hair reflects how we accept ourselves. Through psycho-haircare, she helps clients reconnect with their identity and self-esteem.

The Benefits of Hair Yoga

Hair Yoga blends yoga, Ayurveda, and traditional Chinese medicine. For Indians, hair vitality mirrors overall vitality. By stimulating blood flow through postures and acupressure, Hair Yoga brings both energy and awareness to the scalp.

Malika integrates:

  • Gentle inversion poses

  • Kidney-stimulating postures (linked to hair health)

  • Scalp acupressure points

  • Mudras (finger postures for inner security)

  • Mantras (spoken affirmations)

The practice always ends with a self-scalp massage, from back to front, to boost circulation and oxygenation.
