This summer, chef Jason Gouzy makes headlines twice: his Michelin-starred Pantagruel has just moved next to the Comédie-Française, leaving room for his brand-new project, Panurge. Nestled on Rue du Sentier, this Parisian restaurant dives deep into bourgeois French cuisine with dishes so generous you’ll happily roll out the door. Pure delight from start to finish!
A Feast of Appetite and Pleasure
In Rabelais’ world, knights, giants, monks, and nobles are all obsessed with epic feasts. These outsized – almost monstrous – appetites fascinate Jason Gouzy and inspired the very heart of Panurge. The restaurant takes its name from Pantagruel’s crafty sidekick, a mischievous character with a taste for indulgence.
Alongside his head chef Tomoyuki Uchida, Jason Gouzy creates the kind of dishes he dreams of devouring himself, subtly enhanced with Japanese techniques and served in an elegant setting of wood-paneled walls, blue velvet banquettes, crisp white linens, and vintage tableware.
Highlights include:
- Langoustines with zucchini and Madras curry (€23)
- Veal tongue with Shio-Koji, Romanesco, and tonnato sauce (€17)
- Vegetarian vol-au-vent filled with mushrooms, peas, and a soft-boiled egg (€29)
- Silky rockfish bouillabaisse with Bouchot mussels and confit fennel (€36)
- Melt-in-the-mouth peppered beef with a layered potato millefeuille (€39)
Desserts Worth Saving Room For
The indulgence continues with a decadent rice pudding topped with granola and salted caramel (€12), or a refreshing Peach Melba with jasmine tea cream and tagetes flowers (€14). At lunch, enjoy a three-course menu for €30, and don’t miss the carefully curated wine list, featuring gems like a standout orange wine from Domaine Cazebonne (€10 by the glass).
Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 12:00–14:00 and 19:30–22:00
