The 7 Best Bagels in Paris for a New York–Style Fix

Bagels ? Those perfectly round rolls we’ve long envied the New Yorkers for, are taking over the capital, one bite at a time. From the classic cream cheese to the indulgent BEC (Bacon, Egg, Cheddar), and even sweet variations, the possibilities are endless for every craving and time of day. Hungry for authenticity, we set out to find the best bagels in Paris, because more than just a sandwich, this hole-in-the-middle treat embodies a true lifestyle, and promises a delicious one-way trip to the other side of the Atlantic !

The Most Mix & Match

Here’s a spot that’ll thrill indecisive foodies who love to share and try everything. At Munch, the half-bagel option lets you mix and match to taste as many recipes as possible. Pair it with a creamy oat milk flat white and you’ll feel like a Pilates girl fresh out of a Reformer class in Soho, except you’re in the heart of Batignolles.

Editor’s pick : We love the zucchini bagel (€ 5 for half, € 9.50 for whole) for a light bite, and the egg bacon cheddar (€ 10) for pure indulgence. Don’t skip the Paris-NYC, a sweet finale with praline, dark chocolate, and crushed hazelnuts : the perfect end to your New York-style escape.

Munch - 10 rue des Dames, Paris 17e. Open Tuesday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The Most Fashionable

At this fermentation bar, everything, from dough to pickles and drinks, is slowly crafted to perfection. Say goodbye to bagels on the go and hello to the luxury of savoring them on a plate with a glass of wine. With its beautiful terrace on Rue Lacharrière (11th arrondissement) and its Delicatessen-style interior, the setting is as delightful as that first crispy bite.

Editor’s pick : The grilled cheese bagel (€ 13), with aged cheddar, 18-month Comté, and house pickles, delivers an indecent (yet irresistible) level of comfort food pleasure.

Fitzcaraldo - 9 rue Lacharrière, Paris 11e. Open Tuesday to Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and weekends from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Most American

Bob’s and its several bagel shops across Paris are a timeless classic. Our favorite, the Bob’s Bagel Shop (formerly Bob’s Juice Bar), is just steps from the Canal Saint-Martin, but we also adore the Bake Shop and its large wooden communal tables that make you feel like you’ve crossed the Atlantic.  Expect perfectly executed classics : ultra-creamy cream cheese and bagel dough that makes all the difference.

Editor’s pick : On chilly days, warm up with the soup of the day and a half toasted bagel (€ 7), or try the bagel of the day for a surprise twist. Sweet tooths, don’t miss the iconic PB&J with peanut butter and jam (€ 5) : pure Made in USA happiness.

Bob’s bagel shop - 15 rue Lucien Sampaix, Paris 10e. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Bob’s Bake shop - 12 esplanade Nathalie Sarraute, Paris 18e. Open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., weekends until 4:30 p.m.

The Best Takeaway

This tiny bagel kiosk at the corner of Rue de Grenelle is the brainchild of two brothers inspired by childhood breakfasts at their family ranch in Cody, Wyoming. On the menu : authentic bagels with the perfect chew, both sweet and savory options, plus a coffee corner to create your ideal combo. Could this be your new morning ritual ?

Editor’s pick : The Smoked Turkey (€ 8.50) or the Classic Pastrami for a true taste of America. And for dessert lovers, the Hazelnut bagel (€ 4.50) is pure sweet bliss.

Café Fidèle - 259 rue Saint-Denis, Paris 10e. Open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Most Promising

The newest addition to the list, Café Fidèle, opened in September, and it’s already stealing hearts. Perfectly crisped bagels, sliced in half for maximum flavor, topped with locally sourced ingredients from nearby merchants, and served by the friendliest staff in town. Here, bagels are served open-faced to highlight the toppings, and if you order to go, you might even be asked to take a bite while it’s still warm! No wonder we’re already faithful customers.

Editor’s pick : On the chefs’ recommendation, we tried the cream cheese & tomato bagel (€ 12) and the salted butter & jam (€ 6). Verdict ? Still dreaming about it.

Café Fidèle - 259 rue Saint-Denis, Paris 10e. Open Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday until 5 p.m., and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The Most Generous

If you’ve never tried the hearty bagels from this family-run institution, it’s time to fix that. Head to the 6th arrondissement and pick from a long list of recipes named after American cities, each revealing the ingredients inside. It’s takeaway only, so grab one and enjoy it just steps away at the Jardin du Luxembourg.

Editor’s pick : The Detroit (€ 8.10), stacked with layers of turkey for a protein-packed feast.

Bagels & Brownies - 12 rue Notre Dame des Champs, Paris 6e. Open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Most Distinguished

No introduction needed for Ralph’s, Paris’s most elegant American restaurant, where brunch has become an institution. It’s only on Sunday lunch that you can order their legendary bagel, served on a plate, as preferred by the American upper class.

Editor’s pick : The smoked salmon bagel (€ 32), served “naked” on the plate, ready to be filled with cream cheese, tomato, capers, and onions. You said banger ? Absolutely.

Ralph’s, 173 boulevard Saint-Germain, 75006 Paris 6e. Brunch served Sundays from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
