48h in Deauville : your perfect program in the Normandy Riviera

In terms of distance/disorientation ratio, Deauville gets everyone to agree. At two hours from Paris, it's the iodized destination that lets you breathe without straying too far. Iconic beach, sea spray and discreet chic: the ideal getaway to reboost body and mood in 48 hours flat.

FRIDAY

6pm – Arrival and check-in at Hôtel Barrière Le Normandy. Welcome to one of the most emblematic hotels in Deauville, official headquarters of the stars during the American Film Festival. Facing the main beach and the mythical Planches, this historic palace offers a real journey through time. Its half-timbered façade, decorated with ceramic animals, is a work of art. Inside, the atmosphere is chic and cosy, with soft lounges, a flowery lobby, and a quiet patio, perfect for tea in case of showers. The rooms are dressed in toiles de Jouy and fitted with princess bathrooms, vintage furniture, and ultra-comfortable bedding. The Sunday brunch is a real institution, both well attended and abundantly stocked. It’s the perfect hotel for a weekend in Deauville. 38 rue Jean Mermoz

8pm – Dinner at Ciro's. Installed since 1959 on the Planches, this unmissable spot got a glow-up in 2024 with an ultra-chic makeover signed Friedmann and Versace, in the style of a 1920s ocean liner cabin. There, you enjoy the lobster bouillabaisse, the signature dish, sole meunière prepared à la minute, and ultra-fresh seafood platters. Normandy obliges, oysters are served with a string of homemade butters: salted, iodized, seaweed or yuzu. Ciro’s, Les Planches de Deauville

SATURDAY

10am – Fill your basket at the market. Installed under the open-air and half-timbered halls, the market takes place every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and even six days out of seven during holidays. Head to Place du Marché, just next to Place Morny, to breathe in the local flavors: fresh fish, orchard apples, and local cheeses that make your mouth water (hi Pont-l’Évêque, Livarot, and Camembert). The merchants are local figures, some present for over 20 years. Marché de Deauville, 2 rue Breney

12pm – Lunch in a bouillon like in Paris. At Bouillon Morny, you find the DNA of the Parisian bistro with a Norman twist: retro decor, effective dishes (special mention to coquillettes with ham and chicken in Vallée d’Auge sauce) and gentle prices. Simple, good, with no false notes. Bouillon Morny, 7 rue Breney

2pm – Go see the latest exhibit at Les Franciscaines. This former 19th-century convent has been transformed into an arty spot. Reimagined by architect Alain Moatti, the place is sublime: 400 m² of bricks and millstone, gorgeous light, and a regularly changing program. You’ll discover the André-Hambourg Museum, dedicated to the eponymous painter, and the Galerie des Maîtres, with always well-chosen temporary exhibitions. For a gourmet break, head to the Réfectoire, a locavore canteen offering fresh little dishes to enjoy on a big wooden table. Les Franciscaines, 145 B avenue de la République

4pm – Shopping session at Printemps. Serial shoppers swear by this dream concept-store nestled in a Norman half-timbered manor. Opened in 1912, Printemps Deauville was the first department store to establish itself outside Paris. The interior was imagined as a Norman house, with a majestic staircase, a series of luminous rooms and a glass roof topping the upper floor. Each room bears colors inspired by the Norman landscapes and the graphic carpets are inspired by Printemps archives. A true gem! Printemps, 104 rue Eugène Colas

6pm – Stylish apéro on the Planches. Hard to be more iconic: sea view, colorful umbrellas, and sunset on the English Channel. The Bar de la Mer is the place to be for apéro in Deauville. Large wooden terrace, pop colors, neatly aligned deckchairs… the spot is prized by Deauville’s crowd who come to nibble on whelks with mayo, lobster rolls, and seared octopus, accompanied by a little family white wine. Le Bar de la Mer, Les Planches

8pm – Go for a Michelin-starred restaurant. With L’Essentiel, the eponymous restaurant of Maximin Hellio is one of the only two Michelin-starred tables in Deauville. The setting is modern and muted, in a palette of pearl grey and chalk white. On the plate: haute couture cuisine that plays on acidity and elevates Norman products. The wine cellar is crazy, and the food-wine pairings always hit the mark. An authentic table that honors the region. Maximin Hellio, 64 rue Gambetta

SUNDAY

9am – Drool over Belle Époque villas. Start the day with a stroll through Deauville’s lanes to admire bourgeois villas with Instagrammable charm. Rue Pasteur, rue de Gheest, rue Laplace, or rue Raspail, more than 300 architectural gems appear at every corner. Don’t miss Villa Camélia, villas Le Cercle and Suzanne, and the most famous one, Villa Strassburger, listed as a Historic Monument, discoverable via guided tours.

11am – Swim inside a shell. Even in off mode, can’t skip your workout? Head to the Olympic swimming pool, a retro-futurist jewel signed Roger Taillibert — architect of the Parc des Princes — to do laps in this unique setting, just steps from the beach. With its concrete sails and organic curves, the building looks like a giant shell. Inside: a 50-meter Olympic pool filled with seawater, heated to 28°C year-round. Piscine Olympique de Deauville, Boulevard de la Mer

12:30pm – Lunch at Chez Miocque, the stars’ bistro. Opened in 1905, this emblematic address was first Gabrielle Chanel’s second boutique before becoming Chez Miocque, a legendary brasserie where all of Deauville came to dine. Under the flamboyant Jacques Aviegne, nicknamed Miocque, the place became an institution. Today taken over by the Bourdoncle group (Le Café de Paris, Le Hibou Blanc in Megève), it reopens in May, slightly lifted, but still with a brasserie menu rooted in the terroir. The legend continues. Chez Miocque, 8 rue Eugène Colas

3pm – Treat yourself to a treatment at the Diane Barrière Spa. Nestled in the right wing of the Normandy, the Diane Barrière Spa is a delicate and sophisticated jewel box: elegant woodwork, colorful stained glass, futuristic hallway bathed in chromotherapy, and treatments by Biologique Recherche and Algologie to leave fresher than ever before heading back to Paris. Before or after the treatment, enjoy the indoor pool, the hammam, the infrared sauna, and why not a yoga or pilates class, just to extend the flow. Spa Diane Barrière at the Normandy, 38 rue Jean Mermoz

4pm – Stock up on sweets at Duc de Morny. Impossible to leave Deauville without a stop at this sweet institution, where caramel and praline have been crafted since 1965. Taken over by the Dolfi house (À la Mère de Famille), the address delights with its homemade sweets: fruit jellies, nougats, macarons... Special mention for the local specialty: the Trou Normand, a dark ganache with raisins infused in Calvados. Duc de Morny, 59 rue Désiré-le-Hoc
